Construction Begins on New Long-Term Care Home in Tillsonburg

Tillsonburg, ON — A new long-term care home, peopleCare Tillsonburg, is officially under construction, bringing 160 much-needed beds to the region as part of the Ontario government’s ambitious plan to improve long-term care across the province.

The project, supported by the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, is a key component of Ontario’s commitment to building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds. Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care, Tyler Allsopp, highlighted the importance of the development during Thursday’s announcement.

“Today marks a significant milestone for Tillsonburg. When construction is complete, 160 residents will have a safe and modern place to call home,” said Allsopp.

The three-storey, 2,950-square-metre facility is designed with residents’ comfort and quality of life in mind. The home will feature five smaller ‘resident home areas,’ each accommodating up to 32 residents with dedicated dining and activity spaces, lounges, and living areas.

Additional amenities planned for the facility include a bistro, chapel, therapy room, hair salon, secured balconies, outdoor spaces, a courtyard, and a family stay-over room. These features aim to create a welcoming and supportive environment for residents and their families.

Construction is expected to be completed by late 2026, when the home will begin welcoming its first residents.

This project aligns with the Ontario government’s broader strategy to improve long-term care through four key pillars: staffing and care, quality and enforcement, modern infrastructure, and streamlined access to essential services.

The province continues to invest in long-term care to ensure seniors receive the high-quality care and modern facilities they deserve.
