Construction Begins on New 128-Bed Long-Term Care Home in Port Stanley
Port Stanley, ON – Construction is now underway for a new 128-bed long-term care facility in Port Stanley, a key step in the Ontario government’s plan to expand and improve care options for seniors across the province. The project, led by Extendicare Port Stanley, is supported by the province’s Construction Funding Subsidy top-up program, part of the government’s pledge to create 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds.
Minister of Long-Term Care Natalia Kusendova-Bashta celebrated the milestone, noting the project’s significance for the community. “Our government is fixing long-term care by building capacity where Ontarians need it. Today marks a significant milestone for Port Stanley. When construction is complete, 128 residents will have a safe and modern place to call home,” she said in a statement.
An important milestone in Port Stanley to bring new and updated long-term care spaces to the community. Thank you to @RobFlackEML, @NatKusendova and Port Stanley for their governments’ collaboration and commitment to building this home and enhancing care for seniors. https://t.co/NHXpovFMfy

The new facility will include 68 brand-new beds and 60 redeveloped ones, offering enhanced care and accommodation for seniors. Completion is anticipated by early 2027, with plans for a state-of-the-art two-storey building featuring four resident home areas (RHAs). Each RHA will house up to 32 residents, providing them with intimate living spaces that include dining and activity areas, lounges, and bedrooms.
Additional features of the home include outdoor spaces, a country kitchen, private dining areas, and visitor-friendly amenities such as a guest lounge. The second floor will offer a hair salon, chapel, and physiotherapy support to meet residents’ varied needs.
MPP Rob Flack emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing the growing demand for long-term care. “Our government is committed to accelerating the construction of long-term care homes, ensuring that our community’s seniors receive the care and support they deserve,” he said.
This initiative is part of Ontario’s broader effort to reform long-term care, focusing on four pillars: improving staffing and care, enhancing quality and enforcement, building modern and comfortable homes, and connecting seniors with faster access to essential services.
Extendicare Port Stanley is expected to significantly boost long-term care capacity in the region, providing seniors with a safe, modern environment and bringing much-needed relief to families in the community.
