Community Invited to Unveil New Public Art Installation at Burnhamthorpe Community Centre
Mississauga – Art enthusiasts and community members are invited to celebrate the unveiling of Fungi of the Woods, a new public art installation by artists Christine Leu and Alan Webb of LeuWebb Projects. The free outdoor event will take place at the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, and promises an evening of activities that bring together art and nature.
The unveiling event will begin at 5 p.m. with an opening ceremony featuring Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca, along with special guests, dignitaries, and the artists themselves. Fungi of the Woods is a permanent installation that celebrates the beauty of local ecosystems by incorporating natural themes into its design. Leu and Webb, known for their public art projects that intersect art and the environment, aim to evoke the unique atmosphere of the forest floor with this new piece.
The evening’s schedule includes:
- 5 p.m.: Opening ceremony with Ward 3 Councillor Chris Fonseca, special guests, and the artists
- 5:30 p.m.: Community programming, including nature walks and craft activities
- 7 p.m.: Event conclusion
The ceremony will take place outdoors at the east entrance of the Burnhamthorpe Community Centre, located at 1500 Gulleden Drive, across from Jaycee Park. Attendees are advised to dress for the weather and note that free parking is available onsite.
