“This tentative agreement demonstrates that the best outcomes are reached at the bargaining table,” said Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow in a statement. “TCEU Local 416 – CUPE employees play a critical role in keeping Toronto running, and this agreement pays respect to their contributions, while also providing value for money for Torontonians.”
The specifics of the agreement remain confidential until they are reviewed and ratified by both the union membership and Toronto City Council. These reviews are expected to take place later this week.
City officials highlighted the importance of balancing the recognition of the union’s contributions with the need to ensure fiscal responsibility for Toronto residents and businesses.
More details will be made public after the ratification process concludes.
