City of Toronto Breaks Ground on Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre
Toronto, ON – On Monday, Councillor Josh Matlow (Toronto-St. Paul’s) and City of Toronto staff celebrated the groundbreaking of the Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre, a modern facility set to bring new recreational, fitness, and wellness opportunities to the midtown Toronto community. Located near Yonge Street and Davisville Avenue, the facility aims to address a long-standing demand for accessible recreational spaces in this growing neighbourhood.
Designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities, the new Davisville Centre will include a state-of-the-art 25-metre swimming pool, a warm-water leisure pool for therapeutic use, a fitness centre with cardio and strength equipment, and multipurpose rooms suitable for group activities, workshops, and events. The facility’s accessible design emphasizes inclusivity, ensuring that community members with various mobility needs can fully enjoy the space.
Beyond its recreational amenities, the centre reflects Toronto’s commitment to environmental responsibility. Designed with sustainable, energy-efficient systems, the building will be a part of the City’s net-zero emissions initiative. The facility also features a unique collaboration with the Toronto District School Board (TDSB), which will allow Davisville Junior Public School to share access to the aquatic spaces during school hours. In exchange, the City will use the school’s double gymnasium and underground parking garage for recreation programming outside school hours.

Expected to open in 2027, the Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre represents a key part of Toronto’s investment in local public infrastructure, supporting active and connected neighbourhoods. Councillor Matlow remarked on the centre’s significance: “When completed, the Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre will enhance the quality of life for residents of all ages and abilities in this community. This new facility will not only serve as a hub for health and wellness, but it will also bring our community together, providing a place for people of all ages and backgrounds to connect, stay active and build a stronger, more resilient neighbourhood.”
Mayor Olivia Chow also celebrated the project’s milestone, stating, “The groundbreaking of the Davisville Community and Aquatic Centre is an exciting moment for Toronto. This new facility reflects our commitment to creating accessible, inclusive spaces that promote well-being and provide opportunities for people to lead healthier, more connected lives.”
This project is one of several recent investments by the City of Toronto to develop new recreational centres across the city, including facilities like the Northeast Scarborough Community Recreation and Child Care Centre, East Bayfront Community Recreation Centre, and the recently completed Ethennonnhawahstihnen’ Community Recreation Centre and Library.
The City’s commitment to enhancing public recreational spaces is part of a larger review and refresh of Toronto’s Parks and Recreation Facilities Plan and Parkland Strategy. As part of this outreach, Toronto residents are encouraged to participate in an online survey, available in multiple languages, to share their feedback on these developments.
