City of Mississauga Best Employers recognition by Forbes highlights seven years of workplace excellence, employee well-being and inclusion

MISSISSAUGA, ON — The City of Mississauga has once again been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes, marking the seventh consecutive year the municipality has earned the distinction.

The recognition places Mississauga among just 30 government organizations nationwide to make the 2026 list and reinforces its standing as one of the top municipal employers in the country.

The annual ranking highlights employers that foster positive workplace cultures, prioritize employee well-being, and demonstrate strong commitments to inclusion and professional growth. Mississauga’s continued inclusion reflects its focus on supporting the workforce that delivers essential services to residents and businesses across the city.

Investing in a Strong Municipal Workforce

With more than 8,000 employees during peak seasons across a broad range of professions, the City has invested heavily in modern workplace practices designed to attract and retain top talent. These include:

  • Career mobility, training, and professional development opportunities

  • Competitive benefits and a defined pension plan through OMERS

  • Workplace programs that support employee well-being and recognition

  • A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

City officials say these initiatives are critical as Mississauga continues to grow and evolve, ensuring services remain responsive, efficient, and high-quality.

How Forbes Determines Canada’s Best Employers

The Forbes Canada’s Best Employers list is compiled in partnership with Statista and is based on an independent survey of more than 37,000 employees working at organizations with over 500 staff across Canada. Rankings are determined entirely by employee feedback, evaluating factors such as compensation, flexibility, workplace culture, training opportunities, and career advancement.

City Leaders React

Mayor Carolyn Parrish said the recognition reflects the dedication of City staff.

“We’re proud to once again be named one of Canada’s Best Employers by Forbes. This recognition reinforces that the City of Mississauga is not only a great place to live, but also one of the best places to work in Canada. It reflects the strength of our dedicated employees who are committed to delivering exceptional services and value to our residents and businesses.”

City Manager and Chief Administrative Officer Geoff Wright added that attracting skilled professionals is essential to meeting the city’s long-term needs.

“Our rating affirms our commitment to creating a workplace where employees feel valued and supported throughout their careers. As Mississauga continues to grow, ensuring we have the right talent in place is essential to delivering high-quality programs and services that meet the evolving needs of our residents and businesses.”
