Centaur Theatre Unveils WinterWorks Festival: A Bold Celebration of Creativity

Montreal, QC – The Centaur Theatre is set to ignite the stage with WinterWorks, a daring and innovative festival that reimagines the possibilities of theatre. Running from February 25 to March 15, 2025, the festival presents an eclectic lineup of productions, gallery performances, and readings designed to challenge convention and inspire imagination.

An evolution of the Wildside Festival, WinterWorks is curated by Centaur Theatre’s Rebecca Gibian, associate artist, and Eda Holmes, artistic director. This inaugural event showcases cutting-edge performances from established and emerging artists, further cementing Montreal’s reputation as a hub for the performing arts.

The festival includes two exciting productions at La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines, complementing Centaur Theatre’s core programming.

Centaur Theatre Productions

Adventures (February 25 – March 1, 2025)
A collaboration between Imago Theatre and Keep Good (Theatre) Company, Adventures blends fairy tale and gritty realism. The play explores the profound question: “Am I a good enough person to bring a child into this big, sad, and beautiful world?” With a stunning performance by Ann-Marie Kerr and a captivating original soundscape by Jackson Fairfax-Perry, this production promises to be an emotional journey.

Resurrection (March 11 – 15, 2025)
Part cabaret, part documentary, Resurrection tells the story of Michael Callen, an AIDS activist, musician, and leader in the self-empowerment movement. Adapted from the popular CBC podcast of the same name, the production is led by Dane Stewart and directed by Adam Capriolo, offering a unique blend of live podcast and theatrical storytelling.

Gallery Performance

On What Ground (March 7-8, 2025)
This interactive performance by Other Hearts Collective explores the concept of place and its impact on identity. Through collaboration with the audience, On What Ground delves into the memories, meaning, and legacy of the spaces that shape us.

WinterWorks Reading

Bud <3 (March 2, 2025)
Combining object puppetry and theatre for young audiences, Bud <3 explores themes of grief and care through the lens of horticulture. Written and produced by Darragh Mondoux, the play features intricate puppet design by Chris Wardell and direction by Rahul Gandhi.

La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines Productions

Conte Bright Comme Un Diamond (February 17, 18, 20, 22, 2025)
Presented by Fano Maddix, this contemporary retelling of an Acadian folktale is a rich blend of tradition and modernity. With performances in both English and Chiac, this production celebrates folklore’s timeless, queer, and fantastical spirit.

For Everyone Stuck Chasing The Clock (March 3, 4, 6, 7, 2025)
This visual art-meets-performance piece by Chloë Lum and Yannick Desranleau explores the resilience and hope of individuals navigating chronic illness. Through choreography, set design, and evocative performances, the show creates a poignant reflection on time and purpose.
