Caroline Maynard Reappointed as Canada’s Information Commissioner

Ottawa, Ontario – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced the reappointment of Caroline Maynard as Canada’s Information Commissioner, extending her tenure in this vital oversight role. Effective March 1, 2025, Ms. Maynard will continue her mandate overseeing federal access-to-information practices, an area essential to transparency and accountability in government.

Originally appointed in 2018, Ms. Maynard has served as Information Commissioner for seven years. In her role, she has worked to uphold Canada’s Access to Information Act, often collaborating with federal institutions to ensure they fulfill their responsibilities under the act, which is a key pillar of Canada’s freedom of information legislation. Her work includes investigating complaints about access to information, a task that is vital to maintaining transparency in the government, and advising parliamentarians on access-related matters.
