Prime Minister Carney to Strengthen Canada–U.K. Trade and Security Ties During London Visit
Ottawa, ON — Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to London later this week for a two-day mission aimed at expanding Canada’s economic and security partnerships.
Carney’s visit, scheduled for September 26–27, 2025, will include meetings with the prime ministers of the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Iceland, and Denmark, alongside business leaders and investors. The goal: deepen trade ties, strengthen security cooperation, and create new opportunities for Canadian workers and businesses.
Economic Focus
The U.K. remains Canada’s largest European trading partner and its third-largest globally, with two-way trade in goods and services valued at $61 billion in 2024. U.K. companies are also a vital source of foreign direct investment in Canada, employing more than 166,000 Canadians.
During the trip, Carney will meet with top government and private-sector leaders to highlight Canada as a destination for global investment while pursuing new opportunities in sectors such as clean technology, critical minerals, infrastructure, and agri-food.
Security and Global Co-operation
Carney’s meetings will also advance discussions on critical security issues, including efforts to achieve lasting peace in Europe and the Middle East.
At the Global Progress Action Summit, Carney will join world leaders in advancing policies designed to promote sustainable economic growth. Discussions will emphasize ensuring workers have the tools to succeed in a shifting global landscape while promoting collective solutions to global challenges.
Prime Minister’s Statement
“Canada is a determined and ambitious nation. We are building our strength at home, diversifying our partnerships abroad, and creating a web of strong global connections. These missions will empower our workers with new opportunities and find collective solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. Together with our partners, we are helping build a world where prosperity is shared, where security is collective, and where peace is lasting,” said Carney.
Looking Ahead
This London mission builds on Canada’s broader strategy of diversifying trade and reinforcing alliances in Europe and the Indo-Pacific. By advancing new agreements and building investment ties, Carney aims to strengthen Canada’s role as a reliable global partner while delivering tangible economic benefits for Canadians.
