Carney and UK’s Starmer Discuss Strengthening Canada-UK Ties and Ukraine Support
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke Monday with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, reaffirming the long-standing Canada-UK relationship and committing to deepen cooperation on trade, defence, and global security.
In their conversation, Starmer congratulated Carney on his recent election victory. The leaders agreed to further strengthen economic and defence ties between the two allied nations, while discussing their shared commitment to global peace and security — including support for Ukraine as it seeks a just and lasting peace.
Carney and Starmer also touched on the upcoming Royal Visit by His Majesty King Charles III, set for later this month. The leaders reflected on the enduring heritage and bond between Canada and the United Kingdom, highlighted by the King’s participation in the State Opening of Canada’s Parliament.
Both leaders agreed to remain in close contact as they advance shared priorities across trade, security, and multilateral forums.
