Carney UAE Call Condemns Iranian Missile and Drone Attacks
SYDNEY, Australia — Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke Tuesday with the President of the United Arab Emirates, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, amid escalating hostilities in the Middle East.
According to a statement released March 3, 2026, by the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders discussed Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting civilians across the region. Both condemned the attacks and emphasized the need to protect civilian populations.
Canada Voices Support for the UAE
During the call, Prime Minister Carney expressed Canada’s solidarity with the UAE in the face of the ongoing attacks. He also conveyed appreciation for the UAE’s protection of thousands of Canadians residing in the country.
The UAE is home to a significant Canadian expatriate community, making regional stability a direct concern for Ottawa.
Canada’s Position on Iran
The Prime Minister reiterated Canada’s longstanding concerns regarding Iran’s nuclear program and its regional activities.
The statement notes that despite more than two decades of negotiations and diplomatic efforts, Iran has not dismantled its nuclear program, halted enrichment activities, or ended its support for regional proxy groups.
Canada has consistently supported efforts aimed at neutralizing what it describes as a grave global security threat, including through international coordination and sanctions.
Call for De-escalation
While reaffirming solidarity with partners in the region, Canada also called for immediate de-escalation and the cessation of attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Ottawa has urged all parties involved to prioritize the protection of non-combatants and to work toward stabilizing the broader region.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that Canada will continue engaging with international partners as developments unfold.
