Carney, Spain’s Sánchez Discuss Expanding Trade and Defence Ties
OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke Wednesday with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to reaffirm the close Canada-Spain relationship and explore new opportunities to expand cooperation on trade, defence, and global security.

During the call, Sánchez congratulated Carney on his recent election win. Both leaders discussed the importance of building on the strong bilateral partnership between Canada and Spain, with a focus on enhancing commercial ties and growing defence cooperation as key NATO allies.
They also reiterated their shared commitment to upholding international security and the rules-based international order amid global tensions.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Carney and Sánchez agreed to remain in close contact as both countries continue to advance common priorities.
