Carney and Poland’s Tusk Discuss NATO Security and Ukraine Support

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney held a bilateral call Thursday with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, marking their first official conversation since Carney’s election. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to transatlantic security, NATO cooperation, and support for Ukraine.

During the conversation, Tusk offered his congratulations and welcomed renewed Canadian leadership on key global issues. The two leaders discussed the urgent need to uphold Euro-Atlantic security, counter regional threats, and maintain pressure on Russia as the war in Ukraine enters its third year.

Canada and Poland are both active contributors to NATO operations, with Poland playing a frontline role in regional defence and refugee support. The leaders emphasized the importance of a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, as well as continued diplomatic and military coordination through the NATO alliance.

The prime ministers also expressed interest in deepening commercial and bilateral ties, particularly in areas such as defence industries, clean energy, and digital infrastructure. They agreed to remain in close contact and to explore further opportunities for partnership in the months ahead.
