Canada Condemns Israeli Military Escalation in Gaza, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

Prime Minister Carney urges humanitarian aid surge, hostage release, and renewed path toward two-state solution

OTTAWA, ON — Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a strong statement condemning the Israeli government’s decision to expand its military operations across Gaza, warning that further escalation would only worsen the humanitarian crisis and prolong suffering on both sides of the conflict.

Canada Calls for Immediate Ceasefire and Hostage Release

Prime Minister Carney called for an immediate ceasefire, emphasizing that continued military escalation will not bring peace, nor will it alleviate the deepening humanitarian emergency in Gaza.

“This escalation will do nothing to end the humanitarian horror in Gaza or the deepening suffering of both the Israeli hostages and Palestinian civilians,” the Prime Minister said.

Carney reiterated Canada’s demand that Hamas immediately release all hostages taken during the October 7 terrorist attack, disarm, and step aside from any future role in Palestinian governance.

Humanitarian Aid and Path Toward Peace

The Prime Minister called for a massive and sustained increase in humanitarian aid, delivered at the necessary scale to meet urgent needs in Gaza.

He affirmed Canada’s continued commitment to working with international partners toward a two-state solution:

  • An independent, viable, and sovereign Palestinian state,

  • Living side by side with the State of Israel,

  • In peace and security for both peoples.

Carney underscored that Hamas must not play a role in future governance of a demilitarized Palestinian state and expressed Canada’s support for the Palestinian Authority’s efforts toward reform and democratic governance.

Diplomatic Path Forward

The Prime Minister closed his remarks with a direct appeal for good-faith negotiations:

“Preserving the prospects for peace and stability in the region must be our collective priority,” said Carney. “Canada urges all parties to negotiate in good faith toward a just, meaningful, and lasting peace that respects the dignity, security, and aspirations of all Palestinians and Israelis.”
