Canada-Wide Science Fair Returns to New Brunswick, Showcasing Top Youth Innovators from Across the Country
FREDERICTON — Canada’s largest annual youth STEM event, the Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF), is set to take over the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton from June 1 to 6, 2025. Hosted by Youth Science Canada, the 63rd edition of the fair will welcome nearly 400 finalists from across the country as they compete for over $1.3 million in awards, scholarships, and prizes.
The event marks the first return to New Brunswick since 2019 and promises a week of discovery, experimentation, and celebration of youth-led scientific innovation. Finalists will be joined by delegates, volunteers, educators, and thousands of visitors eager to explore the future of Canadian science and technology.
“We’re excited to bring this celebration of youth innovation to New Brunswick,” said Reni Barlow, executive director of Youth Science Canada. “The Canada-Wide Science Fair offers a unique platform for Canada’s brightest young minds to share their discoveries and connect with peers who share their passion for STEM.”
Fredericton’s historic UNB campus will serve as the central hub for the competition, hosting project exhibitions, lab experiences, social events, and public viewing days.
“Fredericton is delighted to once again host the Canada-Wide Science Fair and welcome the brightest young minds in science to our capital city,” said Fredericton Mayor Kate Rogers. “As the knowledge capital of Atlantic Canada, we look forward to inspiring the next generation of Canadian leaders.”
“This week is incredibly inspiring and holds significant connections to UNB’s robust programs and researchers in science, technology, engineering, and math,” added Dr. Paul Mazerolle, UNB president and vice-chancellor.
The event opens to the public on June 1, 5 and 6, giving local students and community members the opportunity to engage with STEM exhibits and explore student projects in the Project Zone. A highlight of the public viewing days is the STEM Expo (June 5–6), featuring over 50 hands-on exhibits from leading science and tech organizations, universities, and government agencies.
Educators across New Brunswick and neighbouring provinces are invited to register school groups to attend the public days, with transportation subsidies available through PromoScience funding from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
The CWSF concludes with an awards ceremony on June 5 and a top innovators’ panel on June 6. For those unable to attend in person, Youth Science Canada is offering a virtual version of the fair with online access to finalist projects and digital programming.
