Canada Reaffirms Support for Lebanon at Paris Ministerial Conference

Paris, France – Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly strengthened Canada’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability this week at a Paris ministerial conference, where she held talks with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Focused on Lebanon’s escalating challenges, Joly emphasized Canada’s resolve to contribute to security and humanitarian aid, pledging continued support to the Lebanese people amid the region’s turbulent dynamics.

In a social media post on October 25, Joly reiterated her dedication: “Canada has and will continue to actively contribute to the security and stability of Lebanon.” The conference brought together international stakeholders to address Lebanon’s pressing economic and political crises, which have worsened due to ongoing regional tensions. Canada’s participation aligns with its broader foreign policy strategy to support peace and institutional resilience in Lebanon, a country that hosts thousands of Canadian citizens and has longstanding ties with Canada.

This diplomatic engagement builds on Canada’s recent financial contributions, totaling over $49 million in 2024, aimed at strengthening Lebanon’s healthcare, education, and governance systems. By bolstering Lebanon’s infrastructure and supporting its armed forces, Canada hopes to aid in regional stabilization and prevent further crises from destabilizing the Middle East.
