Canada Pledges $50 Million in Humanitarian Aid for Gaza and West Bank Amid Crisis

Toronto, Ontario — Canada has announced a significant step to address the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the West Bank, pledging $50 million in funding to provide life-saving aid. The commitment, revealed by Ahmed Hussen, Minister of International Development, underscores Canada’s efforts to alleviate the dire conditions facing Palestinians in the region.

The funding aims to address urgent needs, including emergency medical assistance, food,  water, and protection services. It will be channeled through trusted UN agencies, the Red Cross, and established non-governmental organizations with operational capacity on the ground.

“The humanitarian situation in the region is catastrophic, and more assistance must reach Palestinians who desperately need it for their survival,” Minister Hussen said. “Canada is actively working with our international partners to increase aid to Gaza while working towards a two-state solution and the long-term reconstruction of Gaza.”

This announcement comes amidst reports of worsening conditions in Gaza, where the risk of famine looms large. Canada has called for the safe and unhindered delivery of aid and reiterated the importance of protecting humanitarian workers and upholding International Humanitarian Law.

The Canadian government has also emphasized the need for an immediate and sustained ceasefire and urged Hamas to lay down its arms while advocating for the unconditional release of hostages.

Upcoming Cairo Conference

Canada will participate in the Cairo conference on December 2, co-hosted by Egypt and the United Nations. This global forum will address the immediate humanitarian needs in Gaza, early recovery efforts, and long-term reconstruction planning. Discussions are expected to explore ways to scale up assistance and establish frameworks for sustainable peace and development in the region.

The funding and Canada’s active participation in international efforts reflect its commitment to supporting Palestinian civilians and advancing peace in the region.
