Canada Launches Youth Mental Health Fund to Address Growing Challenges
Ottawa, ON – Amid rising concerns about youth mental health in Canada, the Honourable Ya’ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions and Associate Minister of Health, has announced the launch of the Youth Mental Health Fund. This initiative aims to enhance access to mental health care for young Canadians through community-based organizations.
The program, part of a $500 million commitment over five years announced in Budget 2024, seeks to support organizations in expanding services, addressing gaps, and ensuring better integration with provincial, territorial, and Indigenous health systems. Community health organizations are encouraged to submit proposals for funding by January 22, 2025.

“Young people across Canada are navigating unprecedented challenges, from the pressures of social media to global conflicts and climate change,” said Minister Saks. “This fund will empower community organizations to meet youth where they are, providing accessible and tailored mental health supports essential for their success and well-being.”
The fund also focuses on underserved populations and Indigenous youth, ensuring equitable access to critical mental health services. By enabling community organizations to link with Integrated Youth Service networks, the initiative seeks to create a seamless care experience for young people across the country.
The government is encouraging eligible organizations to apply, highlighting the role of community groups as vital lifelines in addressing the mental health crisis. “Good mental health is the foundation for young people to reach their full potential,” Minister Saks emphasized.
