CampTO Nutrition Program Expanded to Serve Free Snacks at All Summer Camps
The CampTO Nutrition Program has expanded to all City of Toronto summer camps, helping children stay fuelled while supporting families with food costs.
TORONTO — Thousands of children attending the City of Toronto’s CampTO summer recreation program will receive free nutritious snacks this summer as the City expands its CampTO Nutrition Program to every summer camp location.
Mayor Olivia Chow visited campers at Parkway Forest Community Centre on the first official day of CampTO to highlight the expanded initiative, which is expected to provide healthy mid-morning snacks to as many as 115,000 children throughout the summer.
The expansion follows a successful pilot program last year and is supported by a $500,000 investment approved in the City’s 2026 Operating Budget.
Supporting Families Through the Summer
City officials say the expanded nutrition program is intended to improve food security for children while helping families manage rising household costs.
Running from late June through the end of August, the CampTO Nutrition Program ensures campers receive a free healthy snack during the day, helping keep children energized while participating in recreational activities.
The initiative complements the City’s broader efforts to make summer programming more accessible and affordable for Toronto families.
CampTO Offers Recreation Across Toronto
CampTO provides a wide range of summer recreation opportunities for children and youth between the ages of four and 16.
Programs are offered in neighbourhoods throughout Toronto and include activities that encourage physical activity, skill development, creativity, teamwork and social interaction.
The City says CampTO is designed to provide safe, welcoming and inclusive environments where children can stay active, build friendships and enjoy meaningful summer experiences.
Investment in Child Well-Being
Mayor Olivia Chow said access to nutritious food is an important part of ensuring every child can fully participate in summer programs.
“Every child deserves a great summer. When children have access to healthy food, they can learn, play and engage,” Chow said.
She added that providing free snacks alongside recreation programming helps reduce financial pressures on families while ensuring children have the energy to enjoy CampTO activities.
Building on a Successful Pilot
The City introduced the CampTO Nutrition Program as a pilot before expanding it citywide for 2026.
Officials say the program supports both child well-being and affordability by addressing food security while enhancing the overall camp experience.
The expansion reflects Toronto’s continued investment in recreation, public health and community services aimed at supporting children and families throughout the summer months.
Parents interested in CampTO programs can find additional information, including registration details and program locations, through the City’s CampTO webpage.
