Brampton Steelheads to Host First-Ever Diwali Night Game Featuring Special Jerseys and Logo by Annie Koshy
BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Steelheads are set to make history this Friday, November 1, 2024, with their first Diwali game presented by No Frills, celebrating the Festival of Lights in style at the CAA Centre. This event is a significant cultural nod for the team, which will unveil a special Diwali-inspired logo and limited-edition jerseys designed by Annie Koshy, founder and CEO of GTA South Asian Media Network and radio host on Sauga960AM.
Marking another milestone, the game will see the North Bay Battalion return to Brampton for the first time since relocating in 2013, bringing a unique sense of reunion to this historic night.
Koshy’s design embodies Diwali’s vibrant symbolism, capturing the cultural essence through meaningful elements woven into the jersey. Each detail is thoughtfully curated to reflect the values of Diwali:
- Diyas (oil lamps): Representing the triumph of light over darkness, symbolizing the resilience the Steelheads bring to each game.
- Fireworks: Echoing the excitement of Diwali and the energy of a hockey game, capturing the unity between the festival and the sport.
- Red hues: An auspicious colour in Diwali celebrations, it symbolizes prosperity and good fortune.
- Peacock feathers: Paying homage to Indian heritage, these symbolize beauty and grace, adding depth to the design.
- Rangoli-inspired patterns: Symbolizing positivity, they reflect the Steelheads’ commitment to the Brampton community and its diversity.
In line with Diwali’s spirit of generosity, all game-worn jerseys will be auctioned after the game, with proceeds going to Cancer Warriors Canada. This organization focuses on breast cancer awareness and reducing associated stigma. Koshy, through GTA South Asian Media Network, helped bring Cancer Warriors Canada into the event, strengthening the connection between sport, culture, and community outreach.
The Steelheads are inviting fans to join this unique Diwali celebration, complete with traditional music, cultural performances, and festivities symbolizing unity and light. Tickets for this special game can be purchased via the team’s website.
Join the Brampton Steelheads this Friday at 7 p.m. for an unforgettable Diwali celebration that promises to unite the community both on and off the ice.
