Brampton Steelheads Dominate Brantford Bulldogs with 7-2 Victory

BRANTFORD, ON – The Brampton Steelheads delivered a commanding performance on Wednesday night at the Brantford Civic Centre, securing a dominant 7-2 win over the Brantford Bulldogs in Ontario Hockey League action.

Porter Martone led the offensive charge for Brampton, registering two goals, including a shorthanded marker in the first period. While he did not record an assist, his presence was felt throughout the game. Aidan Lane and Kieran Witkowski also had strong performances, earning multiple points in a game that saw the Steelheads capitalize on Brantford’s defensive lapses.

Brampton came out aggressive in the opening frame, with Martone opening the scoring at 5:13, assisted by Angus MacDonell and Luke Misa. Just under three minutes later, Gabriel Chiarot extended the lead, finishing a setup from Stevie Leskovar and Finn Harding. Martone struck again at 18:01 while shorthanded, punishing the Bulldogs’ power play with an unassisted goal to give Brampton a 3-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Steelheads’ next game will be back on home ice, where they will aim to extend their winning streak and further solidify their place in the OHL standings.

The second period saw the Steelheads continue their relentless attack. Konnor Smith scored just over three minutes into the frame, followed by Lane capitalizing on a power play opportunity at 8:59, with assists from Misa and Jakub Fibigr. Witkowski added another goal at 12:48, further extending Brampton’s commanding lead.

Brantford finally found the back of the net at 15:07 of the second period when Thomas Budnick converted on a play assisted by Jake O’Brien and Tomáš Hamara. However, the Bulldogs struggled to generate momentum, especially with Brampton’s aggressive penalty kill neutralizing their power play.

In the third period, Jack Van Volsen added a power play goal for the Steelheads at 15:16, assisted by Adam Zidlicky and Fibigr. The Bulldogs responded with a late goal from Aiden O’Donnell at 16:38, but it was too little, too late as Brampton’s defense and goaltending held strong.

Steelheads goaltender Jack Ivankovic was steady between the pipes, stopping 17 of 19 shots faced. Brantford’s Ryerson Leenders faced an onslaught, making 27 saves in a losing effort.

Brampton’s special teams played a crucial role in the win, converting on two of seven power-play opportunities while successfully killing all five of Brantford’s power plays. The Steelheads also demonstrated a physical presence, with multiple players engaging in scrappy play, leading to a combined 41 minutes in penalties between both teams.

With the win, Brampton continues to build momentum as they push toward the playoffs. The Steelheads will look to carry their strong play into their next matchup as they return home to face Peterborough on Friday.
