Brampton Honey Badgers Coaches Making Waves in Collegiate and Professional Basketball
Brampton, Ontario – As the offseason unfolds, members of the Brampton Honey Badgers organization are seizing opportunities across the basketball world, with coaches making their mark at collegiate, university, and professional levels.
Sheldon Cassimy, head coach of the Honey Badgers, has returned to McMaster University as a lead assistant coach for the Marauders men’s basketball program. Cassimy, now in his fourth season with McMaster, guided his team to an 83-76 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Friday night. The Lakers, led by Honey Badgers assistant coach Thomas Cory, found themselves on the losing end despite a stellar performance from Alvin Incyogere, who scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. McMaster’s standout player, Cashius McNeilly, led the Marauders with 21 points.
“It’s always extra fun to compete against a friend,” Cory said before the matchup. “We’re both very competitive and want it to be a good game.”
Cory, now in his sixth season as head coach of the Nipissing Lakers, is no stranger to the U SPORTS basketball scene, with 12 consecutive seasons at the helm, including his tenure with Algoma University from 2013 to 2019. Reflecting on his time with the Honey Badgers this past summer, Cory noted, “I developed as a coach and have brought back a lot of ideas here to Nipissing.”
The Honey Badgers’ coaching legacy extends to women’s collegiate basketball as well. Assistant coach Ceejay Nofuente has taken the reins of the Humber College Hawks, steering the program to an impressive 5-1 start this season. Another Honey Badgers assistant, Ajay Shama, continues to make an impact with York University’s women’s basketball team.
The coaching tree also branches into the United States, where Ankit Wadera has joined Lake Superior State University’s men’s basketball program as an assistant coach. Closer to home, Mike Fraser remains a key figure in the Toronto basketball scene, contributing to the development of athletes at Crestwood Preparatory College.
With the Canadian Elite Basketball League’s (CEBL) seventh season set to tip off in May 2025, the Honey Badgers are already gearing up for another exciting campaign. Fans can secure season tickets now by visiting honeybadgers.ca/tickets or contacting tickets@honeybadgers.com.
