Brampton Enhances Public Safety with 360-Degree Cameras and Licence Plate Recognition Technology
BRAMPTON, ON – The City of Brampton is strengthening its commitment to public safety with the installation of 360-degree cameras and licence plate recognition technology at 50 traffic intersections. This initiative aims to provide Peel Regional Police and other law enforcement agencies with critical data to support crime investigations and enhance community safety.
Real-time video footage captured by the cameras will be integrated into a software platform, supplying police with key data, including incident date and time, licence plate numbers, and vehicle details such as make, model, and colour. This technology will serve as a valuable crime prevention and investigative tool, allowing Peel Regional Police to address traffic-related crimes and respond to safety concerns more effectively.
This innovative investigative tool will enhance public safety and strengthen #PRP ‘s ability to investigate and respond to traffic-related crimes and safety concerns.

Currently, 19 intersections have been equipped with the advanced cameras, with installations at the remaining locations expected to be completed by the end of the year. The City emphasizes that these cameras will not be used for issuing tickets; their primary function is to assist law enforcement in investigating crimes, traffic incidents, and other security matters.
Brampton has partnered with Genetec Inc., a Canadian leader in security technology, to provide video management and licence plate reader cameras. The 360-degree cameras are supplied by Axis Communications, a global leader in camera technology based in Sweden.
During the 2025 budget process, Brampton residents highlighted community safety as a top priority, leading the City to invest in advanced technology to ensure a secure environment for residents. The City of Brampton is the first municipality in Canada to implement this technology in this manner, marking a significant step in using innovation to enhance public safety.
