Blue Jays Crush Yankees 10–1 to Take Game 1 of ALDS
Toronto snaps postseason drought with dominant offensive display at Rogers Centre
TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays came out swinging in their return to playoff baseball, routing the New York Yankees 10–1 in Game 1 of the American League Division Series (ALDS) at Rogers Centre. The win marks the club’s first postseason victory since 2016, ending a seven-game playoff skid and giving Toronto an early 1–0 lead in the best-of-five series.
Kirk and Guerrero Power the Offense
Catcher Alejandro Kirk was the hero of the night, blasting two home runs and driving in four runs to lead Toronto’s offensive explosion. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a home run of his own — his first of the postseason — and finished the night 3-for-4 with a sacrifice fly.
The Jays wasted no time setting the tone, scoring five runs in the first three innings and continuing to pile on against Yankees starter Luis Gil, who lasted just two innings. Toronto’s aggressive approach at the plate produced 13 hits in total.
That was fun, eh? Let’s do it again tomorrow!

Gausman Leads the Charge from the Mound
Veteran ace Kevin Gausman delivered when it mattered most, holding the Yankees to one run over 5⅔ innings. He struck out five and walked only one, keeping New York’s power bats in check.
The bullpen backed him up effectively, with Louis Varland escaping a critical bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning by striking out Giancarlo Stanton, halting any potential comeback.
Team Effort from Start to Finish
Every part of Toronto’s lineup chipped in during the Game 1 statement win. Daulton Varsho and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each drove in runs, and the defense played error-free while the Yankees struggled to find any consistent offensive rhythm.
The victory underscored Toronto’s roster depth — from veteran presence to emerging contributors — highlighting the balance that carried them through the regular season.
What’s Next
With the win, Toronto takes a 1–0 series lead heading into Game 2 on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre. Trey Yesavage is expected to start for the Blue Jays, while the Yankees are projected to counter with Max Fried.
A Game 2 victory would move Toronto one win away from advancing to the American League Championship Series — a feat they haven’t achieved since 2016.
