Blue Jays Drop Weekend Series to Tigers Despite Clement’s Walk-Off Heroics

Toronto falls short in rubber match as Torkelson powers Detroit to series win

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays endured a challenging weekend at Rogers Centre, losing two of three games to the Detroit Tigers and slipping to a 22–24 record. Despite a thrilling walk-off victory on Saturday, the Jays were unable to secure the series, highlighting ongoing concerns about consistency and late-game execution.

Friday, May 16: Tigers 5, Blue Jays 4

Detroit opened the series with a 5–4 win, propelled by Riley Greene’s home run, two-run double, and three RBIs. Toronto’s Bowden Francis allowed four runs over 4⅔ innings, while Daulton Varsho and Bo Bichette each homered in the loss.

Saturday, May 17: Blue Jays 2, Tigers 1

In a tightly contested game, Toronto secured a 2–1 victory with a walk-off single by Ernie Clement in the ninth inning. Alejandro Kirk’s pinch-hit RBI single in the eighth tied the game, and Jeff Hoffman earned the win with a scoreless ninth.

Sunday, May 18: Tigers 3, Blue Jays 2

Detroit clinched the series with a 3–2 win, thanks to Spencer Torkelson’s three RBIs, including a go-ahead single in the seventh. Both starters, Jackson Jobe and José Berríos, allowed two runs over six innings. Toronto’s bullpen couldn’t hold off the Tigers, and the offense was stifled by Detroit’s relievers.

The Blue Jays have now lost four of their last six games and will look to rebound as they continue their homestand.
