Blue Jays Fall to Orioles Amid Scherzer’s Early Exit

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays fell to the Baltimore Orioles 9-5 on Saturday afternoon at Rogers Centre, bringing their season record to 1-2. The game was marked by the early exit of newly acquired pitcher Max Scherzer due to right lat soreness.

Scherzer, a three-time Cy Young Award winner, made his Blue Jays debut but lasted only three innings, allowing two runs on three hits. He threw 45 pitches before leaving the game, raising concerns about his health after previous injury issues.

Offensively, the Orioles were led by Jordan Westburg, who recorded his first career multi-homer game with two solo shots, and Colton Cowser, who hit a leadoff home run. Ramón Urías contributed a three-run double, helping Baltimore amass 12 hits.

For Toronto, shortstop Bo Bichette stood out, going 4-for-4 with two doubles and a walk, reaching base five times in a game for the sixth time in his career. Andrés Giménez added a two-run homer in the third inning, briefly giving the Blue Jays a 4-2 lead.

The Orioles responded with a four-run fourth inning, highlighted by Urías’ bases-clearing double, and added insurance runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Baltimore’s bullpen held Toronto scoreless over the final four innings, securing the win.

The Blue Jays will look to even the series in the finale on Sunday.
