Blue Jays Crush Yankees 13–7 to Take 2–0 Lead in ALDS

Toronto Blue Jays bats explode as rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage dazzles in postseason debut

TORONTO — The Toronto Blue Jays are now just one win away from advancing to the American League Championship Series after overpowering the New York Yankees 13–7 in Game 2 of the ALDS on Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

It was a night of history and heroics for the home side. Rookie starter Trey Yesavage, making only his fourth major league start, was nearly untouchable—striking out 11 batters over 5 ⅓ hitless innings. His 10 strikeouts through the first four innings matched a postseason record, and his performance set a new Blue Jays franchise mark for strikeouts in a playoff debut. Yesavage exited to a standing ovation after 78 pitches and a commanding lead.

Toronto’s offence was relentless, setting an MLB record for most runs scored through the first two games of a postseason series (23 runs). Vladimir Guerrero Jr. made history with the club’s first-ever postseason grand slam, while Daulton Varsho hit two homers and Ernie Clement and George Springer added one each.

The Yankees struggled to keep pace after starter Max Fried was chased in the fourth inning, allowing seven runs. Cody Bellinger provided a late spark for New York with a solo home run, but the damage was already done.

The Blue Jays’ dominance continues despite missing key players—Bo Bichette and Max Scherzer—who were both left off the ALDS roster. Toronto’s depth and balance have carried them through, combining rookie pitching brilliance with veteran power at the plate.

Game 3 of the best-of-five series shifts to Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, where the Blue Jays will look to complete the sweep and punch their ticket to the ALCS.
