Blue Jays Fall 5–4 on Soler’s Walk-Off Double in Anaheim
Toronto lets lead slip in the 9th as losing streak extends to four
ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Toronto Blue Jays were one strike away from snapping their losing streak — until Jorge Soler stepped in.
Soler delivered a crushing three-run double with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Los Angeles Angels to a 5–4 walk-off win over the Blue Jays on Wednesday night at Angel Stadium. The loss marks Toronto’s fourth straight and drops them to 16–19 on the season.
Clinging to a 4–2 lead with two outs and the bases loaded in the ninth, reliever Jeff Hoffman was unable to shut the door. Soler sent a 1-2 pitch into the right-center gap, clearing the bases and sparking celebrations for the Angels.
Toronto had built its lead with a pair of key hits in the seventh inning — a two-run single from Bo Bichette and an RBI single by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. — that turned a 2–1 deficit into a 4–2 advantage.
Starter José Berríos was solid again, allowing just two runs over 6⅓ innings, striking out five. Yimi García and Chad Green bridged the gap to Hoffman in the ninth.
The collapse spoiled what had been a promising turnaround after three consecutive losses. Guerrero, Bichette, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa each had multi-hit games, while Daulton Varsho added a stolen base and run scored.
The Angels were led by Nolan Schanuel’s RBI double in the second and a solo homer from Taylor Ward in the sixth. Soler’s ninth-inning heroics were the difference as Los Angeles evened the series.
What’s Next:
The Blue Jays will try to salvage the finale of the three-game set tonight. Chris Bassitt (2–4, 4.91 ERA) takes the mound for Toronto, while left-hander Reid Detmers (3–2, 3.92 ERA) starts for the Angels. First pitch is scheduled for 9:38 PM ET.
