Discussions focused on easing tariffs on Canadian canola and supporting farmers
Ottawa, Ontario — Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Kody Blois, has wrapped up a four-day visit to China as part of a Saskatchewan-led trade delegation focused on addressing ongoing agricultural trade barriers, particularly tariffs on Canadian canola.
From September 6 to 9, Blois joined Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe and other delegates for a series of meetings with senior Chinese officials, including Executive Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang. Discussions centred on pathways to resolve trade irritants impacting Canadian producers.
This past week, I was pleased to be the first Premier to visit China in six years.
With support from the federal government, we’re beginning the work of rebuilding Canada’s relationship with China.

Supporting Canadian farmers
During the meetings, Blois emphasized Canada’s commitment to supporting farmers facing the effects of Chinese tariffs. He pointed to recently announced federal measures designed to help canola producers manage uncertainty and remain competitive in global markets.
Constructive engagement
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the talks with Chinese counterparts were described as constructive, providing an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and explore pragmatic solutions. The visit also facilitated exchanges with key organizations involved in trade between Canada and China.
Government officials say this engagement marks an important step in advancing Canada’s agricultural trade interests while continuing to work toward stable market access for producers in Saskatchewan and across the country.
