Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport Launches Holiday Food Drive for Daily Bread Food Bank
Toronto, ON – Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport is setting the stage for the holiday season with a month-long donation drive supporting the Daily Bread Food Bank. Through December, airport visitors can make donations to assist families in need by using TipTap machines installed at four locations across the terminal, making it simple for anyone passing through to tap their debit or credit cards to contribute.
The initiative, announced jointly by RJ Steenstra, President and CEO of PortsToronto; Neil Pakey, President and CEO of Nieuport Aviation; and Neil Hetherington, CEO of Daily Bread Food Bank, aims to alleviate food insecurity in Toronto, where the issue has reached alarming levels. According to recent data, one in ten Torontonians struggles to afford enough food, while food bank visits have soared to 2.53 million, marking a 51% increase over last year.
“Daily Bread Food Bank is reporting skyrocketing food insecurity in the City of Toronto and across the region,” said RJ Steenstra. “Through this campaign, we have an opportunity to provide much-needed resources to families in need.”
Neil Pakey of Nieuport Aviation emphasized the airport’s connection to the community: “YTZ is a vital transportation hub for Toronto, and we’ve also made great strides in becoming an integral part of our community. We hope everyone passing through the airport will join us in supporting this worthwhile cause.”
Neil Hetherington of Daily Bread Food Bank expressed gratitude for the airport’s support, underscoring that funds raised will go directly toward providing emergency food assistance to Toronto families this holiday season.
The campaign, which brings together airport staff, passengers, and community members, is expected to make a meaningful impact on food security across Toronto. Those unable to donate in person can also support the drive through the campaign’s dedicated online platform. The total amount raised will be announced in December, bringing hope to families in need as the holiday season unfolds.
