Baskin-Robbins Expands Partnership with BGC Canada, Launches Scholarships for Post-Secondary Students
Toronto – Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, has deepened its partnership with BGC Canada (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada) by sponsoring four scholarships aimed at supporting Canadian students in their post-secondary education. The scholarships are part of Baskin-Robbins’ Pink Spoon Community Program.
The first recipients of the scholarships, each receiving $4,000, include Chad from Toronto, Mahad from Ottawa, Jett from North Simcoe, and Katie from Stettler, Alberta. These students are affiliated with BGC Clubs across Ontario and Alberta and are pursuing various academic paths.
“A solid education is a critical element in life,” said Natalie Joseph, spokesperson for Baskin-Robbins in Canada. “We’ve been honoured and privileged to work with BGC Canada over the years, and this expansion is a testament to our belief in their work and the importance of investing in young people. Congratulations to each of the recipients.”
Scholarship Recipients and Their Academic Pursuits
- Chad, from the BGC Albion Club in Toronto, is set to pursue a Computer Systems Technician diploma at Seneca College. Reflecting on his achievement, he said, “When I found out I received the Baskin-Robbins Scholarship, I just thought how all my hard work and dedication…has culminated to this moment in time.”
- Mahad, affiliated with BGC Ottawa, will be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Carleton University. He expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am very grateful to be one of the recipients of the scholarship provided by Baskin-Robbins. This scholarship will ease the financial burden of attending post-secondary.”
- Jett, from BGC North Simcoe, is excited to begin a Bachelor of Applied Science in Child Studies at the University of Guelph. “The Baskin-Robbins scholarship means so much to me and my family. For years I have dedicated hours of my life to this organization because of how inclusive and life-changing it has been for me,” Jett shared.
- Katie, from BGC Stettler & District in Alberta, plans to pursue a career in the STEM field. “Growing up, the sciences have always been a passion of mine. I dreamed of discovering new possibilities within the world of science as a woman by breaking through societal standards and paving the way for other women to attain their educational goals,” Katie said.
Growing Costs of Education
As students across Canada gear up for a new academic year, they face increasing costs. A recent Statista study noted a nearly 3% rise in tuition fees in 2023 alone.
Brooke Duval, Senior Director of Partnerships & Philanthropy at BGC Canada, remarked, “The students have shared with us how excited, happy, and relieved they are to receive this gift. It is so rewarding to work with organizations like Baskin-Robbins on programs that truly make a difference.”
Baskin-Robbins, part of Inspire Brands, has been a partner of BGC Canada for seven years through its Pink Spoon Community Program, which also includes an annual in-shop fundraiser and in-kind ice cream donations.
