Angus MacDonell Signs Entry-Level Contract with Dallas Stars
BRAMPTON, ON – The Dallas Stars have officially signed forward Angus MacDonell to a three-year entry-level contract, the team announced today. MacDonell, 19, was selected by Dallas in the sixth round (189th overall) of the 2023 NHL Draft and is currently playing in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).
The Toronto native expressed his excitement over the milestone, emphasizing the support of his family during the signing. “I’m super excited to have signed my first contract with the Dallas Stars, it was a total whirlwind of emotions with my parents and brother who were there when I signed it. A lot of hard work and time has gone into this so I’m just excited to get my foot in the door with Dallas and get to work!” said MacDonell.
Originally drafted by the Sarnia Sting with the 13th overall pick in the 2021 OHL Draft, MacDonell was later traded to the Mississauga Steelheads on January 7, 2023, in exchange for Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Luca Del Bel Belluz. Since joining Mississauga, he has developed into a key offensive contributor, recording a career-high 62 points (32 goals, 30 assists) in 61 games last season. In the current 2024-25 campaign, MacDonell has continued his strong play, serving as an assistant captain while tallying 47 points (24 goals, 23 assists) in 39 games.
Steelheads Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond praised MacDonell’s work ethic and determination. “We are so proud of Goose and very happy for him and his family. Angus shows up game after game ready to compete for his team and that’s what pro teams want, a winner and competitor! Congrats to you Angus and to his family that have been his biggest supporters along the way.”
With his entry-level contract signed, MacDonell now looks ahead to his professional future with the Stars organization as he continues his OHL season with Mississauga.
