Advance Voting This Weekend for Ward 15, Don Valley West By-election

Toronto – Residents of Toronto’s Ward 15, Don Valley West, will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in advance for the upcoming by-election to elect their new city councillor. Advance voting will take place on Saturday, October 26, and Sunday, October 27, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at two designated locations: the Bob Rumball Centre at 2395 Bayview Ave. and the Jenner Jean-Marie Community Centre at 48 Thorncliffe Park Dr.

Election Day Details

Election day is scheduled for Monday, November 4, when 49 voting locations across Ward 15 will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Unlike advance voting, voters on election day must vote at their assigned location, which can be found by visiting the City of Toronto’s website at www.toronto.ca/MyVote.

To be eligible to vote in this by-election, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Canadian citizen;
  • Be at least 18 years old;
  • Be a resident of Ward 15, Don Valley West, or own or rent property in the ward;
  • Not be prohibited from voting by law.

Eligible voters may only vote once, regardless of how many properties they own or rent within the ward.

What to Bring When Voting

Voters must bring identification that shows both their name and address within Ward 15 to receive a ballot. While it’s not mandatory, voters are encouraged to bring their Voter Information Card (VIC) to make the process more efficient. If you haven’t received a VIC, you can download a digital copy at www.toronto.ca/MyVote.

Voters who are not on the list but meet the eligibility criteria can still be added to the voter list at the polling station during advance voting or on election day. It’s important to note that a VIC is not an acceptable form of identification on its own.

Mail-in Voting Deadline Approaching

For those who opted to vote by mail, completed packages must be received by Toronto Elections no later than noon on Monday, October 28. Packages can be mailed back or hand-delivered to one of two secure yellow drop boxes in Ward 15, located at the Bob Rumball Centre and Jenner Jean-Marie Community Centre, available during their respective hours of operation.

Voters who applied for mail-in voting but have not yet returned their package can still choose to vote in person during advance voting or on election day.

Accessibility and Proxy Voting

The City of Toronto is committed to making voting accessible. Voter Assist Terminals (VATs), which allow voters with disabilities to mark their ballots independently, will be available at both advance voting locations. These terminals offer a range of accessibility features, including braille, audio functions, and adjustable zoom for visual aid.

For voters unable to attend in person on either advance voting or election day, there is the option to appoint a proxy. A proxy voter must be eligible to vote in the by-election and complete a certified Voting Proxy Appointment Form, available from Toronto Elections.

Eligible voters are reminded to check www.toronto.ca/MyVote before heading to their voting place to confirm the location, as some assignments may have changed.
