407 ETR Launches Route Relief Program for Low-Income Drivers

TORONTO — In a move aimed at providing greater accessibility to Highway 407 ETR, 407 ETR has launched its new Route Relief Program, offering up to six free trips per month to qualifying low-income drivers and families. The initiative, designed to ease transportation costs for those in need, marks the first time the toll highway is offering extended free travel as part of its financial relief efforts.

The program is open to residents who meet the low-income definition set by Statistics Canada. To apply, eligible individuals must submit an online application through 407etr.com/routerelief and provide documents such as proof of residency, vehicle plate ownership, and income verification. Once approved, participants will have access to the program for one year, with the opportunity to renew based on continued eligibility.

“We’re proud to provide support for families who need it most, and this program helps ensure that more drivers have access to a fast, safe, and reliable commute,” said Javier Tamargo, President and CEO of 407 ETR. “We hope this program will make it easier for our customers to enjoy a stress-free journey to get to a game or a doctor’s appointment without worrying about their bill.”

The Route Relief Program joins several other financial assistance options offered by 407 ETR. While the existing Financial Hardship Program, Exceptional Hardship Program, and Repayment Assistance Program focus on short-term financial aid, the new initiative is unique in providing monthly free trips over a longer period.

Kirk Brooks, Founder of the Seaside Hockey Program, praised the initiative: “I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges many families face in finding the time to take their kids to games after work. 407 ETR’s new Route Relief Program is a great step in ensuring that access to safe and reliable transportation is not hindered by financial constraints.”

Since 2019, 407 ETR has supported nearly 5,000 customers through its financial assistance programs. The company has also invested over $10 million in community sponsorships, donations, and free travel, along with more than $1 million over the past decade to support youth sports through initiatives like the Keep Moving™ program.

Highway 407 ETR, which spans 108 kilometers from Burlington to Pickering, remains committed to investing in local communities and easing financial barriers for those in need. For more details on eligibility and the application process for the Route Relief Program, visit 407etr.com/routerelief.
